Zoom Demonstration - Science: Oil and Water

You can choose to participate with Ms. Maria, or repeat her science projects on your own at a later time (video recordings will be available).
- Tiny fireworks: approx. 1/8-1/4 cup inexpensive vegetable or mineral oil; 2-4 colors food coloring; approx. 1-2 cups tap water (about room temperature); 1 tall clear glass/cup; a metal spoon; a 1-cup measuring cup; paper towels
- Lava lamp: 2 versions (choose one OR both; I'll be showing both)
- A. 1 tablet Alka Seltzer or denture cleanser (or similar effervescent tablet); approx. 1-1/2 cups inexpensive vegetable or mineral oil; 1 color food coloring; approx. 1/8 - 1/4 cup tap water (about room temperature); 1 tall clear glass/cup; a metal spoon; a 1-cup measuring cup; paper towels
- B. Approx. 3 tablespoons baking soda; approx. 1-1/2 cups inexpensive vegetable or mineral oil; 1 color food coloring; approx. 1/8 - 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar; 1 tall clear glass/cup; a metal spoon; a 1-cup measuring cup; paper towels
- Ooblek: 2 cups corn starch; 1 cup tap water (about room temperature); a 1-cup measuring cup; a large mixing bowl (ideally plastic, but glass will work, too); a metal spoon; paper towels; a bowl of warm water nearby for dipping hands into
